Journey writer

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Apply for this role

Employment typeRemote from Malaysia — for this website

Our writing desk is responsible for developing the stays we recommend on this website. We are looking for a remote journey writer in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The work balances research, writing, evaluating hotels, checking availability, consulting with the Makkah desk, and recommending the clearest stay for approval. The ideal person has a writing or hospitality background and a passion for exploring the country. A request on the site is not a payment. Towers, heat, and family rooms must be specific. Malay and English help you confirm what a hotel will actually hold for a quote.

Do you feel…

  • Inspired to write interesting, grammatical, and accurate descriptions of stays — names, days, and inclusions a family can trust
  • Motivated to build hotel and partner conversations that result in an honest quote for the traveller, while the hotel sees a clear request
  • Capable of researching a stay to determine its true value and concisely say why the house would recommend it on the website
  • Keen on sifting through many hotels to keep only the ones we would accept, and to push those forward to the Makkah desk
  • Excited to check availability, update an ongoing stay when the facts change, and present your best stay for approval
  • Ready to work closely with the Makkah desk to open new hotel conversations and grow the ones we already have
  • Able to watch how a published stay is used and recommend a written change so the website stays honest

You are ideally…

  • Degree educated, preferably in journalism, advertising, communications, marketing, or hospitality — or able to show the same care in your work
  • A rising professional with at least two years of relevant work, including writing, digital media, hotels, or a local travel desk
  • A high performer with a strong work ethic and sound judgement
  • An excellent communicator with clear writing, speech, and the ability to present a stay to the desk
  • Fluent in Malay and English; living in the country is a strong advantage
  • Someone with a proven passion for travel, including experience booking your own stays
  • Empathetic, hands-on, and precise — willing to say when a hotel should not be published

What’s in it for you…

  • You work remotely, from the country of the role, with one travel house in Makkah, on named hotels and clear days for this website
  • You may be asked to visit a stay you wrote; that visit is arranged and confirmed in writing, not assumed, and we do not publish a yearly travel budget or a club perk on this page
  • Recognition comes from the desk in writing. There is no public awards programme and no membership club
  • The house is small. You write to the desk. There is no corporate ladder page
  • You learn by researching real destinations, hotels, and days — not by a published training catalogue
  • If we proceed, pay and working days are confirmed in writing. We do not post a salary here

If you are excited about this role and feel intrigued by our values of leading by example, warm heart, cool head, and working hands, write to us. We would like to read how you work.

A WhatsApp message is an expression of interest. It is not an application on a hiring platform and not a promise of work. If we continue, days and pay are confirmed in writing.
